New Research: The Effects of Humanized Professional Development on Faculty Perceptions & Instructional Practices

February 5, 2025

The Humanizing Online STEM grant project team is pleased to announce the publication of a new article in The Internet and Higher Education. The study, which examines faculty survey and interview data, shows changes in faculty perceptions and teaching behaviors as a result of completing the Humanizing Online STEM Academy. Faculty participants found the Academy to be highly beneficial for building trust with students online and reported increased confidence in teaching online and reducing equity gaps after completing the program. Changes after the Academy included increased prioritization of personal interaction and student needs.

This important study emphasizes professional development as important equity infrastructure for institutions, particularly as online class enrollments continue to grow at community colleges.
